ENGAGING CURRICULUMS

For Two-Year-Olds

A first-time experience in a school setting involves adhering to a regular schedule, utilizing age-appropriate materials, and providing meaningful experiences. Special attention is given to early toilet training and hygiene practices. It is believed that significant learning occurs through the imitation of others in this early group setting. These early interactions can yield benefits in the classroom, even when early speech is not yet apparent. Gross motor skills become more pronounced as children engage in activities such as bouncing, running, hopping, balancing, throwing, and catching. However, their ability to maintain focus for extended periods is a challenge at this age. To address this, we strive to keep them actively engaged by incorporating movement and varying activities regularly. A key tool in introducing new academic skills is music, which is employed as a means of facilitating the learning process for the children.

DISCOVER, PLAY & LEARN WITH OUR

Three-Year-Old Class

The increased utilization of blocks, small manipulatives, and art materials is now incorporated into the curriculum. Three-year-olds are becoming more self-sufficient in meeting their physical needs. Outdoor play and self-expression are favored activities as children gain awareness of their roles in interactions with other children. Furthermore, their fine motor skills are maturing as they develop abilities such as writing, cutting, coloring within lines, tracing, and more.

HOW KIDS DAY OUT PRESCHOOL

Improve Your Child's Skills

Cognitive Skills

When children think, process, and analyze, they are using their cognitive skills. Learning to read and count are examples of acquiring cognitive or academic skills. This is not an automatic process. All cognitive skills must be taught and learned.

Language Skills

Language employs symbols (words, gestures, or spoken sounds) to represent objects and ideas. Communication in language begins with spoken sounds combined with gestures. Children first learn to develop oral language (also known as receptive language) by listening to and understanding what they hear. It is then followed by expressive language, wherein they now communicate using words, phrases, and sentences.

Psychomotor Skills

The physical development of children also involves developing their fine and gross motor skills. Gross motor skills involve movements of the big muscles, and fine motor skills involve movements of the small muscles.

Self-Help Skills

Children need to learn to care for themselves and the environment around them. With proper guidance, every child can achieve all that they are capable of. We encourage teaching children to be responsible for their own self-care. This also helps children learn to value and respect the things around them.

Socio-Emotional Skills

The social and emotional growth of each child develops in a supportive environment. During the preschool years, the child learns to trust his teachers and make friends. At the same time, he becomes more self-reliant and independent. Separation from parents is a significant element in gaining independence. At the same time, he is also learning the rules, routines, and expectations of the classroom. This includes sitting in a circle, raising his hand to speak, or waiting for his turn. The child is also given opportunities to speak out, and the people around him support and value his feelings and ideas. He is also taught how to handle emotions such as frustration, anger, or hurt.

Values Education

Although this is not part of the five basic skills, it is one of the most important aspects a child must learn in his or her growing years. Values like honesty, integrity, responsibility, compassion, kindness, and love must be modeled and taught. A child's character will be crucial to how he will live his life in the coming years. Positive self-esteem and the ability to handle emotions like frustration and failure are necessary to maintain healthy relationships. Teaching kids these basic skills early on will surely help them grow up well-rounded and grounded.

PREPARE YOUR CHILD FOR KINDERGARTEN

At Kids Day Out Preschool

Kindergarten is a time of social learning and adjustment, where the child is being prepared for essential work habits and listening skills crucial for the future. There is a belief that a child who socializes comfortably will become a more effective learner. Various levels of development are addressed through exposure to a diverse array of materials, encompassing calendar awareness, hands-on math, letters and phonics, sight words, reading, and computer skills.

All these aspects are explored within an environment of exploration and discovery, as opposed to a teacher-dominated lecture format of instruction.

Our Policies

  • Health Policy

Our health policies are developed from guidelines set by the State Department of Protective and Regulatory Services. Your child is not admitted to school if he or she has any of the following symptoms:

    • Cold (runny nose, green drainage, congestion)
    • Fever (100.4 degrees or more)
    • Reddened eyes with discharge or crusted eyelids
    • Upset stomach (vomiting or diarrhea)
    • Rash of any form (small pinpoints or large blisters)
    • Head Lice

If your child has any of these symptoms, please wait 24 hours after the symptoms have ceased before returning to school.

If your child becomes ill while at school, you will be called immediately, and your child will be separated from the other children. Any child with a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher will be sent home.

Upon having the following diseases, a child must have written consent from either a physician or the Health Department to return to school:

    • Chicken Pox
    • Measles
    • Mumps
    • Pneumonia
    • Whooping Cough

Parents are expected to notify the office immediately should a child have an illness diagnosed by the doctor as a contagious disease.

In the event of an emergency, we will obtain medical care and then notify the parents or an emergency contact. If a child sustains a minor injury (ex., a scraped knee or elbow), the teacher will inform the parents when the child is picked up.

Medication will not be administered to any student at Kids Day Out Preschool.

Testing for Vision and Hearing Screening:

The Special Senses and Communication Disorders Act requires that all schools show proof that vision and hearing tests have been performed this calendar year on students who are 4 years old.

  • Food Policy

You are responsible for providing your child’s lunch and drink. Please label the lunch box and drink with your child’s name. Please send lunches that are simple and will allow your child to manage his or her lunch on her own. If necessary, please cut up appropriate foods to avoid choking. Kids Day Out Preschool is not required to meet nutritional guidelines because the parents provide the child’s lunch.

  • Discipline Policy

Kids Day Out Preschool uses a positive approach to discipline by directing children toward age-appropriate behavior. Teachers help the children develop self-discipline by:

    • Using positive reinforcement of appropriate behavior choices
    • Redirecting the child
    • Using patience, love, and understanding
    • Setting clearly defined limits
    • Talking about acceptable ways of handling situations as they arise

Since biting is a serious offense, we have a policy of sending home the child who bites. Each parent will be notified of the incident.

Kids Day Out reserves the right to remove students from the program if inappropriate behavior cannot be corrected. We will document incidents as required by the state, have parent conferences, and make every effort to correct the issues before dismissing the student from Kids Day Out Preschool.
